Thats like dishing out +3 shield and +3 full plate to a defence style eldritch knight and complaining his AC is too high on account of the shield spell. The +3 bow is cancelling out the main drawbacks of sharpshooter (and from the sounds of it the PC has +3 arrows as well, to make things even worse). An enemy with a monklike arrow catching reaction, enemies that impose disadvantage, casters with shield / wind wall or similar effects, enemies that reduce damage taken by a certain number, etc Corners and vertical terrain can get in the way and force him to move to set up his shots Have fewer clear lines where he can shoot. Shots with enemies adjacent are at disadvantage Oozes are an example of a creature that can reasonably ignore piercing damage Enemies that don't care about being pierced. Hordes of foes that fall in one hit can spread out damage and give others with more AoO style attacks tiem to shine Still, a level 17 archer fighter with magic gear will demolish whoever he sets his sights on, that's what he's built to do. On the other 's not so much the feat, as it is all the attack bonuses that make the feat work. It's all fighters do, hit things over the head until they die. On the one hand, he's a 17th-level 5e fighter who's optimized as much as 5e allows for ranged combat. Oops, this was meant to be in the 5e forums. Magical ammo, also offsets the hit penalty. Too many attacks, and archery style hits too often for the -5 hit penalty to really matter. They get too much mileage out of it compared to other classes. I don't know what to do other than ban sharpshooter for fighters after this campaign. She really has to think about using power attack or not. So she isn't really over shadowing the rest of the group. She hits harder, but she misses frequently. It is so broken.īy comparison, I have another campaign going with a great weapon fighter using a flaming greatsword. He just never misses unless enemy AC is 18+. At the moment, I have to assume that every monster in the MM with around an AC of 15 is going to suffer 150 damage in the first round of combat just from him using action surge.
